I am looking at getting away for a while. Most of next week will find me by a cool river or stream fishing, relaxing, resting. With the continued hectic pace of our lives the call to come away to an out of the way place may seem very inviting. But do we ever get there? Are our vacations so full and active that we need to rest from our vacations? Do we know how to rest?
This past weeks gospel has Jesus saying come away and rest, but they never get there because of the needs of the crowds. They try to go, but the crowd beats them to where they are going. So Jesus teaches them many things.
So what are we seeking in getting away? Can there be a resting even in the midst of the hecticness of our lives? Can learning somethng new answer the call to rest? Maybe it is in the singlemindness of the call, focus on one thing, put multi-tasking aside for just a while. Concentrate on one thing. In that there is rest a plenty.
